This Sausage and Cheese Crescent Ring is a beautiful and delicious appetizer that’s perfect for parties, brunches, or a special weekend meal. It’s filled with a savory sausage and cheese mixture, all wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough. The presentation is as impressive as the flavor!

Prep Time : 20 mins | Cook Time : 20-25 mins | Total Time : 40-45 mins

Yields: 6-8 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground sausage (Italian sausage, breakfast sausage, or your favorite)
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion (optional)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a blend of cheddar and Monterey Jack)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 (8 ounce) cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional: Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a large baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned and cooked through. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. If using onion and garlic, add them to the skillet with the sausage during the last few minutes of cooking until softened and fragrant.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine the cooked sausage mixture, softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder. Mix well until everything is evenly combined.
  5. Unroll both cans of crescent roll dough. Separate each triangle. Arrange the triangles on the prepared baking sheet with the short, wide ends overlapping slightly in the center to form a ring. The pointed ends should be facing outward.
  6. Spoon the sausage and cheese filling evenly over the wide, overlapping portion of the crescent dough ring.
  7. Bring each pointed end of the crescent dough up and over the filling, tucking it under the center ring of dough. This will create a wreath shape with the filling peeking through.
  8. Brush the top of the crescent ring with the beaten egg. This will help it turn golden brown and shiny.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is heated through and bubbly.
  10. Carefully transfer the sausage and cheese crescent ring to a serving platter. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley, if desired. Slice and serve warm.

Tips :

  1. Different Cheeses: Feel free to experiment with other cheeses like mozzarella, provolone, or pepper jack for a different flavor.
  2. Add Veggies: You can add other cooked vegetables to the filling, such as chopped bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach. Make sure to drain any excess moisture from cooked vegetables.
  3. Spice it Up: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sausage mixture for a little heat.
  4. Herbs: Experiment with other herbs like oregano, thyme, or basil in the filling.
  5. Breakfast Ring: For a breakfast version, use breakfast sausage and consider adding cooked and crumbled bacon or ham to the filling.

ENJOY!!
