Prep Time : 20 mins | Cook Time : 20-25 mins | Total Time : 40-45 mins
Yields: 6-8 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground sausage (Italian sausage, breakfast sausage, or your favorite)
- 1/2 cup chopped onion (optional)
- 1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a blend of cheddar and Monterey Jack)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 (8 ounce) cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Optional: Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a large baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned and cooked through. Drain off any excess grease.
- If using onion and garlic, add them to the skillet with the sausage during the last few minutes of cooking until softened and fragrant.
- In a medium bowl, combine the cooked sausage mixture, softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder. Mix well until everything is evenly combined.
- Unroll both cans of crescent roll dough. Separate each triangle. Arrange the triangles on the prepared baking sheet with the short, wide ends overlapping slightly in the center to form a ring. The pointed ends should be facing outward.
- Spoon the sausage and cheese filling evenly over the wide, overlapping portion of the crescent dough ring.
- Bring each pointed end of the crescent dough up and over the filling, tucking it under the center ring of dough. This will create a wreath shape with the filling peeking through.
- Brush the top of the crescent ring with the beaten egg. This will help it turn golden brown and shiny.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is heated through and bubbly.
- Carefully transfer the sausage and cheese crescent ring to a serving platter. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley, if desired. Slice and serve warm.
Tips :
- Different Cheeses: Feel free to experiment with other cheeses like mozzarella, provolone, or pepper jack for a different flavor.
- Add Veggies: You can add other cooked vegetables to the filling, such as chopped bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach. Make sure to drain any excess moisture from cooked vegetables.
- Spice it Up: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sausage mixture for a little heat.
- Herbs: Experiment with other herbs like oregano, thyme, or basil in the filling.
- Breakfast Ring: For a breakfast version, use breakfast sausage and consider adding cooked and crumbled bacon or ham to the filling.
ENJOY!!
